April 24th can't come soon enough
Here are dates when this horrible journey began.
3/9 he visited his PCP due to pain and she ordered an ultrasound. Scheduled the ultrasound but they could not get him in until 3/20.
On 3/13 we went to the ER at Methodist Mansfield. They performed an ultrasound and gave us the news of a mass in his abdomen about the size of a grapefruit and at least 1 on his lung. After reviewing the radiology report the mass in his abdomen is a 1. necrotic infiltration mass right renal mass measuring 19 X 13 X 14 cm in size with extra capsular extension into the right posterior lateral pararenal space. Finding are concerning for renal cell carcinoma. 2. Metastatic mass in the right middle lobe measuring 5.7 X 4.3 cm. A 11 mm metastatic nodule in the right lower lobe.
They contacted his urologist that removed his kidney and we went to see him on 3/14. He stated that because of the location it appeared his renal cell carcinoma had reoccurred. Urologist order a bone scan, CT chest X-ray and a brain MRI.
We then made an appointment with a kidney oncologist at UT Southwestern. They requested that we go back to the urologist and request a biopsy. We were told that he could not do the biopsy that he would have to see an oncologist for the biopsy order. That appointment was to be on 3/29.
On 3/28 he was taken by ambulance to Methodist Mansfield with symptoms of a heart attack. They ran several tests including a pharmacological nuclear stress test and everything came back normal to his heart. His pain was extreme and his O2’s were dropping. He was placed on oxygen and admitted to the hospital. We asked if they could perform the biopsy in the hospital since he was there. They agreed but could not do it for 5 days due to the aspirin that was given for the possible heart attach that he went to the ER for.
The biopsy was performed on 4/3. He also has a growth in his shoulder which they checked out at the hospital that came back as another mass. They did another CT chest X-ray and found a necrotic mass measuring up to 5.9 cm and numerous bilateral lung nodules. They told us all this was consistent with metastatic disease.
On 3/31 they did an ultrasound of his shoulder and it came back as a solid mass in the soft tissues adjacent left scapula.
The biopsy was done in the morning of 4/3 and he was discharged that evening around 5:30pm.
We received the biopsy results on 4/6 as metastatic melanoma. We have an appointment with an oncologist at UT Southwestern on 4/24 to learn more and talk about treatment.
